Foire Aux Questions
FAQ
What is a zine?Zines are self-published 'magazines' that are typically made by amateurs and enthusiasts about a certain topic who want to share about it. Our project will be an anthology-style zine with a mixture of fanart and fanfiction. Will this zine be for-profit or for-charity?This will be a for-charity zine. The charity will be decided on by our mod team. How many contributors will there be?We plan to have around 40 contributors, but this may change depending on how many applications we receive. Will this zine be including writers?Yes! We aim to include short fanfiction in our zine. What is the maturity rating of this zine? This project is rated for adults due to the canon typical violence from Arcane, but we will not be including sexually explicit content. What are the basic requirements for contributors? All contributors should be over 18 by the end of our application period. All contributors must have an email account and Discord account for communication. On your application, you will be required to have a portfolio and sample pieces. These do not have to be strictly Arcane-related, but you must showcase your previous work to us.What is the compensation for contributors and mods? All mods and contributors are guaranteed a digital copy of the zine. If we are able to meet our funding goals, we will first aim to provide a free physical copy of the zine booklet, then merch, then free shipping. If we do not meet our funding goals, contributors will be permitted to purchase all items at production cost.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES
Basic Guidelines
🧪 Before applying, please be aware that all contributors MUST be 18 years or older by May 5th, 2025 (the end of our application period).
🧪 Have a Discord account and email account for us to contact you with! Acceptances and rejections will be sent to your email, and if you are accepted you will need a Discord account to access the server where all contributor-related communication will take place.
🧪 Be on time! If you can’t make a deadline, you will need to let the mods know in advance. Extensions of up to one week may be granted for all deadlines except the final submission date.
🧪 Turn on your notifications! You are responsible for checking the Discord server and your email account to receive notifications of important events.
🧪 Be kind! We do not tolerate bullying, harassment, or bigotry of any kind. If you are found to be engaging in this sort of behavior, you will be removed from this project.
🧪 Follow contributor guidelines! We do not restrict what content contributors choose to create outside of our project. However, all contributions to our project should follow the content guidelines found below.
🧪 Notify us ASAP of any issues! If you need to drop out, you will need to notify us IMMEDIATELY, so we can find a suitable replacement. Contributors who drop out will not be reinstated.
Content Limitations
Content limitations are relevant to this project only. We DO NOT restrict the content which contributors create in spaces unaffiliated with our zine project, and we will not judge your application based on material unrelated to our project. If you have an idea for a contribution but are not sure whether it meets our content requirements, please reach out to us before applying.Your submission to our project should not include:❎ explicit sexual content
❎ non-con/rape
❎ incest*
❎ omegaverse
❎ explicit discussions of pregnancy
❎ romantic or sexual content involving any character under the age of 18
*This project does not consider the relationship between Silco and Vander to be incestuous. We will be allowing the canon-typical nickname of ‘brother’ in the sense of brothers united by a cause or brothers in arms.
General Application Guidelines
🧪 Any applicants who meet our age requirement may apply. However, applicants from countries that are currently experiencing mail restrictions by USPS should be aware that they may not be able to receive a physical copy of the completed Zine.
🧪 Please make sure that the samples you submit with your application do not contain explicit sexual content, or content that goes beyond canon-typical violence or gore.
🧪 Please make sure all your links to sample works are correct, and that the permissions for any Google Drive folders are set to permit anyone with the link to view them! We will not reach out in case of broken or inaccessible links.
Failure to follow the application guidelines will result in a lower score on your application, so please be sure to read them carefully!
🧪 While not mandatory, we recommend having your interpretation of Vander and Silco represented somewhere in your portfolio or samples. This doesn’t have to be a full illustration or full fic - we just want to see how you interpret them in your artistic or authorial style.
Page, Merch, & Comic Artist Guidelines
🧪 You must submit a minimum of 3, and up to a maximum of 5, samples of artwork. If you are a merch artist, photos and mockups of the same merch design are counted as one submission.
🧪 You must submit a portfolio. Your portfolio should contain at least 5 works, but no more than 15.
🧪 Samples should represent the work you intend to produce for this zine. If you use multiple styles, please include only the styles that you intend to use if you are accepted.
🧪 If you intend to apply as a merch artist, we encourage finished products over mockups.
🧪 If you intend to apply as a comic artist, you are required to submit at least one example of a comic or other sequential artwork.
Writer Guidelines
🧪 You must submit a minimum of three, and up to a maximum of five, samples of your writing.
🧪 The maximum length of writing samples is 2,000 words.
🧪 For writers, a portfolio is optional. You may submit a portfolio if you believe there is not enough room in the samples section to showcase your writing.
🧪 If you intend to create poetry or any other form of writing other than prose, please submit at least one example of your work in that style of writing.

PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS
Page ARtists
Page artists, once accepted as contributors, are expected to do the following:
🧪 Submit your check-ins ON TIME
🧪 Follow the given specs. Templates and detailed instructions will be provided in the Discord server.
🧪Create one full-color illustration about Vander and Silco, including a background. Your illustration must include a visual hierarchy. You may add side characters and props, but the focus of your piece should be on Vander and Silco.
🧪 Create a piece in the style of the contribution type (portrait, spread, comic) assigned to you. In the application, you will have an opportunity to indicate your preference for a contribution type. If you want to change your contribution type, please inform a mod before the first check-in.
Portrait vs Spread
We plan to assign both portrait and spread pieces to artists. We define a portrait piece as a vertically aligned illustration occupying one side of a page, which features the main pairing and a simple scene at minimum. A spread piece is a horizontally aligned illustration occupying two pages, which features the main pairing and a medium-complexity scene. You may increase the complexity of the scene if you desire. In the application form, applicants will have the opportunity to indicate their interest in which contribution type they want to create. The mods will inform you upon acceptance of which contribution type has been assigned to you.Templates will be provided by the mods for contributors to use as a reference.
Comic Artists
🧪 All comic artists will have a maximum two-page limit. If you would like additional space, please reach out to a moderator to discuss.
🧪 Text in comics will be formatted to remain consistent within the zine. A comic will be judged as ‘complete’ when it:
- Effectively tells the story it is trying to convey
- Is fully colored and/or fully shaded
🧪 Comics do not have to be fully rendered, but they must meet a level of finish beyond that of simple lines or sketches.
🧪 Keep in mind that the level of detail and amount of work required for comics will be equal to or even greater than the detail and work required for other illustrators.
Merch artists
Merch is a unique position because different types of merch require different sets of skills. For complex merch items such as enamel pins, we are looking for contributors with some past experience with the medium.
If there is little to no interest in a certain merch type, we will not be producing that merch. A finalized merch list will be given out to contributors when they are accepted into the project. You will be assigned a merch type in your acceptance email. If you want to switch to a different type, please inform a mod before the first check-in.
Possible merch types we will be using in the zine:🧪 Paper bookmarks (2” x 6”, 1-2 designs)
🧪 Postcards (6” x 4” or 5”x7”, 1-2 designs)
🧪 Die Cut Stickers (2” x 2” - 3” x 3”, 1-3 designs)
🧪 Sticker Sheets (6” x 4”, 1 design)
🧪 Acrylic Charms (2” x2” - 3” x 3”, 1-2 designs)
🧪 Phone wallpaper (2k, 16:9 aspect ratio, 1-3 designs)
🧪 Desktop wallpaper (4k, 16:9 aspect ratio, 1 design)
🧪 Profile Pictures/Icons (set of 2-4)
🧪 Emojis (set of 3-5)
Merch artists may do more than one design for certain items. If you wish to create more than the allotted maximum for one design, please reach out to the head mod before the first check-in. If you would like to create a stretch goal piece or use a special finish such as holographic or foil, please specify in your pitch. You will be informed after your acceptance if your request for a special finish has been accepted.
SPOT ART
🧪 All artists accepted into the zine will be given the option to contribute spot art. Spot art refers to small pieces used as decorative design elements in pages without other art, for example pages of written work.
🧪 Spot art should be created with integration in mind. Spot artists should work closely with their assigned writer (if any) and our formatting mod to meet the needs of the project.
🧪 All spot artists must submit a primary contribution alongside their spot art.
Writers
🧪 The maximum word count for written contributions to the Zine is expected to be around 1,500 words. In exceptional circumstances, space limitations in the Zine may mean mods will need to work with you on adjusting text formatting or word counts.
🧪 Writers will be given the option to request spot art, which will be created by a volunteer artist contributor or by a mod. If a writer wishes to collaborate with a specific artist, this should be worked out with the artist in advance of the first check-in
🧪 Writers may share their work with beta readers for input, but please note that only the writer will be compensated for their submission. All writers will have access to the writing/editing mod as well as the head/organization mod in case they have questions about their submission.
